N. Gogol "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka"

Colorful, permeated with the author’s sympathy for many of his heroes, their traditions, mysticism, and humor – such are Gogol’s “Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka”, stories about Little Russia, which, alas, no longer exists. Many of the stories and short stories that make up this book are included in the compulsory school curriculum.

Of course, one of the most valuable responses to N. Gogol’s book belongs to Alexander Pushkin: “I just read “Evenings Near Dikanka”. They amazed me. Here is real gaiety, sincere, relaxed, without affectation, without stiffness. And in places what poetry!.. All this is so unusual in our current literature that I still have not come to my senses…” And although Nikolai Gogol himself considered this book to be a student’s experiment, it was nevertheless especially dear to the writer.
