The book “Today, Tomorrow, or Yesterday: Fairy Tales” includes the best works of the classic children’s writer Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak.
S. Marshak was not only a renowned children’s poet; he was also a brilliant translator and introduced Russian children to the works of foreign writers and poets. This collection features his retellings of Norwegian and English fairy tales, as well as tales from the East, the Caucasus, and elsewhere. S. Marshak also contributed significantly to the establishment of the first children’s theater in our country. It later staged plays by S. Marshak, such as “The Teremok” and “The Twelve Months.” These plays are included in the collection along with his other plays. The book also features the rarely published fairy tale “Two Oxen the Size of a Pea,” as well as the verse tales “Old Woman, Close the Door,” “The Miller, the Boy, and the Donkey,” “Why Was the Cat Called a Cat?” and others.
