Vitamin C: 100 g of blackcurrant leaves contain up to 260 mg of ascorbic acid, and 100 g of fruit – only 177 mg. Other berries and fruits, with the exception of rose hips, have much less vitamin C.
Antioxidants: blackcurrant leaves contain many flavonoids – plant compounds necessary for protection against free radicals.
Minerals: 100 g of leaves contain 327 mg of calcium (in milk and cottage cheese only about 120 mg), 370 mg of magnesium and 158 mg of potassium.
The diuretic effect of currant leaf tea is used in the treatment of urolithiasis, pyelonephritis, cystitis. Regularly taking a decoction of currant leaves, we significantly reduce the risk of diabetes. The phytoncide contained in the leaves helps in the treatment of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases.
Tea from currant leaves is not recommended for chronic kidney diseases. Also, people suffering from acute stomach ulcers and gastritis should not drink such tea. Other contraindications for currant tea: hepatitis, increased blood clotting and thrombophlebitis.
